Crank shaft thoughts 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
The usual victim... working on an '82 Yamaha Vision 550 still and again.

So the latest motor seizure has been attributed to spun bearings on the rear cylinder.

The question is: is it practical to get the existing crank worked on or find a donor shaft? It is a rather old bike and I'm sure it isn't still available new. The dreaded NLA on all of my web searchings. I've seen a few other motors and partial motors around, but they could easily have the same issue or worse. I haven't had a crank worked on before so this is new territory for me... thoughts?!?

Did it spin the rod bearings?.....if so check if oversize bearing are available for it ...if not you are stuck with finding a used crank.....the rod can be fixed but only if not too badly damaged ....a used one will probably be in order as well

yea, rod bearings...

There are photos posted on the Riders of Vision web forum here: http://ridersofvision.net/rovforum/index.php?topic=11462.0

I am thinking it is pretty ugly, but I am not versed in what a machine shop can do, and when it stops being 'practical'...

Like I said if oversized rod bearings are available you can have a machine shop grind the journal down and fit the new bearings with the old rods.....call me if you need more help Erich
